Final Year Project
Restoration of the 15th Century Malacca Royal Palace
The Sultanate Palace Museum in Malacca is a contemporary reconstruction of the original seven-storey palace, which was destroyed by lightning one year into the Sultan’s reign. With limited historical information available, today’s palace is based on information from the Malay Chronicle and aims to recreate the magnificent palace of its day through 3D modelling and VR technology.
Why Choose VR?
Public schools providing ancient history courses are unlikely to consider frequent international travel for their students a viable option; however, through VR these same students could explore the architectural brilliance of the Pantheon or even purely imaginary structures without ever leaving their classroom
- No time or place limit
- Convenient
- Can restore destroyed buildings
Creative objectives
Using 3D modeling to restore the former Malacca Royal Palace, combined with VR technology can make the original boring historical buildings interesting, and also allow people to experience the former Malacca Royal Palace in person, not just a pattern on a piece of paper.
Craft objectives
Through 3D modeling to restore the palace of Malacca, and through some research and field visits, we can restore the palace at that time as much as possible, so that we can better understand the appearance of the palace in the prosperous Malacca period in the 15th century.
Commercial objectives
The restored Malacca Royal Palace is equipped with VR smart technology to make the boring history more vivid. Therefore, it can cooperate with some historical institutions such as museums or exhibitions, and has a certain sales value.
